20160309_144159475_iOS        Pantone 2016 Colour of the Year

This year Pantone have announced 2 colours of the year for 2016:  Rose Quartz & Serenity.

Who are Pantone and what is the colour of the year all about, I hear you asking?

Who are Pantone?

Pantone are a colour standards company in America, they predict the trends in colour and produce colour guides for designers and artists. Since 1999 they have headed up a team of colour experts and chosen a colour of the year. Only for 2016 they have chosen 2 colours for the first time.

What is the Pantone colour of the year?

The colour of the year is supposed to be a symbolic colour choice, or a snapshot of what we are seeing in our world today. Its an expression of mood & attitude.

How does it work?

It is a standardized colour matching system which using its numbering system identifies colours, it was initially designed for the graphics industry, but is now widely used for the manufacturing of coloured paint, fabrics, plastics etc.

You will often find that trends in the design & fashion industry utilise the colour but not always. 2015’s colour Marsala was not necessarily a hit and attracted some negative comments.

What are the 2016 colours of the year?

As I mentioned earlier there are 2 colours this year for the first time ever – Rose Quartz and Serenity

They have been described by Pantone as colours that provide: Balance, Calmness, Wellness, Compatibility, Duality and Tranquillity.

ROSE QUARTZ has been chosen as a gentle tone providing compassion and a sense of composure.

SERENITY was chosen to represent the expanse of the blue sky with feelings of respite and relaxation for turbulent times.
